For server owners running the nomap modifier, RavenEye gives the people on the
server’s own adminlist.txt the ordinary minimap and large map back, drawn exactly as the
game draws them — and on it, the ordinary player pin for every player online, whether or
not that player ever chose to share their position.
It does nothing for anyone else. Nothing new is drawn. Remove it and the world is exactly what it was.
What It Does
🗺️ The Map Itself
An admin’s minimap and large map return, running on the game’s own code — no overlay, no
second map. Their own exploration still counts (the game records it even on a no-map world),
their own pins still work, and the large map on M still zooms.
📍 Every Player Pinned
Every online player gets the ordinary vanilla player pin — name and icon — moving on the same two-second cadence the game uses for shared positions, whether that player has sharing switched on or not. Names show on the large map at zoom, same as vanilla.
💀 Where They Died
A player who dies stays on the map for three minutes at the place they fell, marked “(dead)” — because on a world with no map, “help me find where I died” is the question an admin hears most.
🔐 The Server Decides
Whoever the server’s adminlist.txt says is an admin gets the map — the same check the game
runs before it honours a remote console command, a kick, or a ban. There is nothing to
configure and no second list to keep in step: add an ID and the map appears within seconds,
remove it and the map is gone within seconds. The roster travels to each admin over that
admin’s own connection, the one channel no other client can address, so no other player can
intercept or forge it.
🎭 Playing Honestly
An admin who wants to play their own no-map world the hard way can turn the grant down:
ShowMap = false in the client config, or raveneye map off in the console. The server
keeps offering the map; the client just doesn’t take it. raveneye map on takes it back —
and also clears the character’s own nomap preference, the one vanilla’s nomap command
sets on the character itself and carries to every world after.

Installation
Server: required — nothing happens without it.
Admins’ clients: required, to receive the roster and show the map. On a Gale-managed
client the plugin folder is
%APPDATA%\com.kesomannen.gale\valheim\profiles\<profile>\BepInEx\plugins\, not the Steam
folder.
Everyone else: nothing needed. If a modpack installs RavenEye on every client anyway, it stays inert for anyone off the admin list — no map, no pins, no change of any kind.
Requires BepInExPack Valheim.
Built against Valheim 1.0.12 — on a game at 1.0 or newer, this is the version to run; 0.1.0
loses its raveneye console command there.
Compatibility
RavenEye patches two things, both as postfixes that yield to any other mod: the game’s own
map-permission decision and the list of players to pin. It never touches EnvMan, map
rendering, or world generation, so the season and weather mods are unaffected. A mod that
unlocks the map for everyone makes RavenEye’s own unlock redundant — the pins still work.
Reading a Vegvisir behaves for a granted admin exactly as it would on a map world: it pins the location and opens the map, instead of turning your head toward it.
Cairn and RavenEye are complementary — Cairn is for players finding their own way on a world with no map, RavenEye is for the person on duty. RavenEye shares a name’s worth of resemblance with The Raven’s Call and nothing else: no code, no data, no connection between them.

Every RavenIron project is engineered server-authoritative in C# and .NET, and shares the same forge.
